Court starts at 5:30 p.m.

When you arrive at the Municipal building, you will need to check in with the Court Clerks at the front table. You will be asked your name and how you would like to plead. You may plead Guilty, Not Guilty, or ask for a Continuance. You will then take a seat in the court room and wait for the Judge to call your name.

 
Your Citation
When a person is issued a Pleasant Valley Municipal ticket, the ticket constitutes a summons to appear in Court. You will not receive a notice of your court date through the mail. Your court date is printed in the upper left of your citation.  Your citation may not require a court appearance, please review the schedule of violations and fines that may be paid without a court appearance. It is the defendant’s responsibility to appear in Court, or pay the citation by the Court date listed.
 
If the defendant does not pay the fine by the court date given or appear in court, a Failure To Appear citation may be issued which carries an additional fine of $103.00. This citation will give you a one time continuance with a new court date. 
 
If the defendant still does not appear a Warrant may be issued for their arrest. In addition, the court will notify the Department of Revenue of the defendant’s failure to appear and his or her driver’s license will be suspended.
 
Paying Your Fines

You can pay by mail, or in person. We accept cash, money orders, cashier checks, or personal checks with picture ID.

You can now pay certain citations on-line. You must have your citation number and your citation offense must be listed on the pick traffic violation sheet you received. Basically, simple traffic citations, no warrants, DWI's, Assault, etc.,

If you choose to plead guilty and pay your fine you may do so in person or by mail. 
Please sign the Plea of Guilty and Waiver of Trial on the back of your ticket. By doing so this will constitute a waiver of your rights and you will be convicted of the offense described on the citation. When paying by mail, make sure your payment reaches us before your court date.

Violation Bureau Information

The Municipal Court has established a Violations Bureau for the convenience of anyone charged with certain offenses who wish to avoid a court appearance. If you wish to plead guilty and prepay through the Violations Bureau you must:

  1. Sign the Plea of Guilty and Waiver of Trial on the back of your ticket and mail with payment.
  2. Obtain payment: Preferred payment is money order or cashiers check in the appropriate amount payable to the City of Pleasant Valley.
  3. Mail to:  City of Pleasant Valley

(If you would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment.)

  1. If you choose to pay in person, present ticket and payment prior to court date at the address listed above on the lower level of the City Hall building.

Failure to dispose of this citation by the court date may result in the issuance of a WARRANT FOR YOUR ARREST.

The following charges are  MANDATORY Court appearances and have no payout Fines:

  • Animal Violations
  • Any Violation Involved in an Accident
  • Code Violations
  • Driving While Intoxicated/Under the Influence
  • Driving While Suspended/Revoked
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident
  • Minor in Possession of Narcotics/Cigarettes/Alcohol
  • No/Expired Driver's License
  • No Insurance
  • Open Container
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Narcotics
  • Speeding over 19 MPH

 

 

Your Rights

If you have been issued a citation/ticket, you have certain rights. 
You have the right to plead not guilty and have a trial with the Judge. You have the right to cross-examine witnesses who testify against you and you have the right to subpoena witnesses to testify on your behalf. You have the right to give your own testimony or to not testify. 
You also have the right to plead guilty. If you decide to sign the guilty plea on the reverse side of your citation, this will constitute a waiver of all your rights stated above and you will be convicted of the offense described on the citation.
 
Pleading Guilty
If you feel that you are guilty of the offense listed on your citation and want to dispose of the ticket without a personal appearance in Court, then you may do so by paying the standard fine plus court costs in advance of the court appearance date shown on the citation. You must sign the back of the citation in the space provided and mail to the Municipal Court or pay in person.

I-35N take Exit 13 - turn left at the stoplight, then left again onto Pleasant Valley Road. Drive up to the top of the hill to the 4-way-stop (Fire Department Station will be on the north side of Pleasant Valley Road) and turn left on Sobbie Road. Drive south on Sobbie Road to Royal Street which is the first street on your right. The City Hall building and parking lot will be on your left.

I-35S take Exit 14 - turn right onto Pleasant Valley Road, Drive up to the top of the hill to the 4-way-stop (Fire department will be on the north side of Pleasant Valley Road) and turn left on Sobbie Road.  Drive south on Sobbie Road to Royal Street which is the first street on your right. The City Hall building and parking lot will be on your left.
